Saraja de Jonge


"Saraja gives movement a meaning. Visual, abstract and as a metaphor of an event and an emotion.”


Saraja studied contemporary dance at the Center for New Dance Development (EDDC/CNDO) HKA in Arnhem and also studied Japanese Butoh Dance and mime in Amsterdam and Copenhagen. She developed as a versatile artist.

She makes dance work for specific locations or occasions.

Most recent work is the intense dance performance "Reflection",

danced in the Gymnastics Hall in Ellecom based on the charged history of this place, created on the occasion of the 450th anniversary of the Municipality of Rheden. (2023)



Since 2020, Saraja has been back at various locations with her new one

dance performances. She is currently working on a playful, humorous dance solo: DRIP DROP combination of dance, mime and even a bit of clowning. (suitable for all ages for various festivals)


Self-employed in the cultural sector since 2002; own theater company Muzimo Theater Productions. www.muzimo.nlSaraja plays and creates theater performances for young children in Arnhem for, among other things, the National Reading Days, full of humor, songs and clowning and to promote language development in young children.

Saraja was taught by dance teachers from the US

from a Postmodern dance background, in the subjects: Body awareness, dance improvisation & contact improvisation, music/sound, dance making, release technique, BMC (Body Mind Centering) Teachers: Deborah Hay, Eva Karczag, Nancy Stark Smith, among others

        Steve Paxton, Lisa Nelson, Simone Forti, Fast Forward, Mary Fulkerson.


She also took lessons in Japanese Butoh dance with Kazuo Ohno and Natsu Nakaima


Her dance/theater life started in Amsterdam in 1987

where she took dance, theater, art, mime and pantomime lessons, among others

at the Rob van Reijn pantomime theater and the School for New Dance Development. She also played in mime performances by Ellen Jane Dijkstra.
